Acer has followed the likes of Dell and
created a flagship PC – an all-in-one with a huge 27-inch screen. The
all-in-one term means that all the hardware is packed behind the display. The
only extras are the wireless keyboard and mouse, which match the PC’s glossy,
jet black styling. That doesn’t mean it lacks power, though. There’s an
impressive Nvidia GeForce GT 640M processor for tackling intense visuals and
games, but the headline features are the Blu-ray drive, 1TB hard drive, and
HDMI sockets that let you hook up an Xbox or media streamer. The Aspire 7600U
has excellent media credentials, with a high resolution screen that produces a
good depth of color.

Sadly, the audio options are confusing, and
there’s a loud but unbalanced sound that’s just about acceptable for music
playback, but not great for watching movies on disc or via a media streamer. To
get the best from the Aspire 7600U’s internal components and the impressive
audio options of Windows 8, you’ll need to find pair of matching black
speakers.

Shine a light
The screen itself is heavy, and is anchored
by a giant plinth, which means you’ll need a very big desk to accommodate your
keyboard and mouse if you want to sit at a comfortable distance.
Despite that, the Aspire 7600U is in many
ways the ideal family computer, happy to sit in a large lounge or home office.
The PC’s design is a step forward for Acer, and although the distracting
illuminated logo and power button are at odds with the minimal sleekness of the
general design, it’s still a head-turning machine.

hardware specification that’s aimed at the general user rather than
professionals, but with brilliant extras like the Blu-ray drive and wireless
keyboard and mouse, the Aspire 7600U is an impressive and attractive
