Performance

This printer has many options and settings in the control screen on the computer.

Printing speed: Printing a great 36mp image on an A3 size with image adjustments such as A3 size (without border), creating a print at 444ppi, and it takes about 12 minutes to print, using the highest settings. A full-size image in the page (with no text) on an A4 takes about 7 minutes at the highest quality setting, or 6 minutes in setting the standard image quality (B + W prints faster than 4 minutes). We use a second printing of Canon Photo Pro Platinum (PT-101), which makes the print speeds slower.

The use of ink is remarkably high when printing A3 photos using the highest quality setting, with one ink tank still remaining a bit before printing an A3 photo, followed by three extra cartridges that were also reported to run out. In the printing process, the printer is extremely quiet, even though we attempted to try to hear any sound whether it prints or not; however, paper scrolling into the printer is quite loud by comparison.

There is an option for "Black and White Photo Print" in the installation directory. This has been tested with images in black and white in a very light sepia tone. The print color is very identical to the original with excellent color gradation (see brown hair), neutral gray (see the picture in the gray model), and not too contrasty.

Value

The Canon PIXMA Pro-10 is on the market at $750 - making the Epson Stylus Photo R3000 (with nine larger ink tanks) become the closest competitor in A3 + photo printer series, priced at $862. The Canon PIXMA Pro-100 also offers monochrome ink for black and white, so to save money, you can look at the Pro-100 with eight ink tanks, sold at $523. The next sample to the PRO-10 is the PRO-1 model with 12 inks at the starting price of $1,033.

Evaluation

The Canon PIXMA Pro-10 has the ability to print excellent quality images, with the great glossiness. The color was especially impressive with precise interaction of image colors, as well as excellent handling of the delicate skin tones and hair colors. With the dedicated black and white inks we hope to print black and white better, as we have passed the test with light sepia tone.

There are not many options for A3 photo printers available at this price, with models coming in at much cheaper prices with less ink colors, or more expensive prices for larger ink tanks as standard. However, with the small cartridge, it can be quickly increased if you plan to print a lot of A3 color pictures, as a perfect set costing about $132. The printer has good Wi-Fi connectivity that is easy to set up, and printing large 36 megapixel images in Photoshop is not a big problem with it. The Canon PIXMA Pro-10 feels like a product of long-term structure, creating great color prints, though sold at a high price.
