Armaggeddon Mikoyan Foxbat - Not Exactly A MiG

Armaggeddon makes some very pretty high performance gaming mice. In fact, they might actually have the most badass looking designs in the market. Something I’m sure they take great pride in. The Foxbat isn’t going to swing games in your favour, 1 DESIGN CONCERNS but it is going to get a lot of attention.

1.    Design Concerns

The most striking thing about the Foxbat is the faux panel lines that run across its surface. Those look neat and quite militaristic, that is until you take a closer look and see that it's just marketing. Aside from that, it comes with an adjustable weight option, a boon for those who think it matters. Sure there are those who prefer a mouse to be heavier or lighter but in this case the built in weights don't actually alter the performance all that much. In fact, you might want to put them all in anyway because the Foxbat is very light.

2.    Performance Related Writing

Personally, the Foxbat is only somewhat more responsive than the average mouse. That's not to say that it's a bad choice for taking to your next gaming event. Some gamers prefer a slower response time, especially to for games that reward precision over reflexes. The grip is a little flat and might affect the aiming time for those with bigger hands. Even maximising the sensitivity didn't help much either.

Shteelseries Sensei Major League Gaming Edition - Step Into The Major League

Steelseries has been on a rampage as it tied up deals with dozens of gaming events and game publishers to showcase their goods. This time, they’ve gone on to update their professional gaming mouse, the Sensei, with a Major League Gaming model. We’re going to find out if it has what it takes to give gamers that edge they need over the competition

1.    Same form factor

On the outside, this MLG edition Sensei looks almost identical to the original Sensei. The grip feels a little plasticky, which isn't very comfortable if your palms start sweating (for example in a serious gaming match). Gone is the old LED lit Steelseries logo and is replaced with a new MLG logo, so you can always tell which version you've bought. The tiny LCD screen on the underside of the mouse is also still there and, once again, will inspire more than a few to question the wisdom in putting an LCD screen where people don't usually look. However, Steelseries presumes that you'll be taking the MLG into a cybercafe and need a way to personalise it against theft.

2.    New enhancements

If there's one thing you have to give to Steelseries, they don't mess around when it comes to raw numbers. The sensitivity button on the top of the mouse is replaced with controls to double the sensitivity. This immediately improves the performance from 8200 dpi to 16400dpi. Unfortunately, those are the only two options: fast or superfast. The rest will have to be set with the Sensei's configuration software. In terms of actual game performance, it varies quite a bit. Provided with an ideal surface (like a pro-gamer would have) it works very well. The taller mouse helps control the movement with a greater amount of precision. It's just a pity that the material used on the chassis is something that is generally undesirable.

Logitech G600 - Monsters Number G600

Razer recently updated their Naga gaming mouse to a monster 12 thumb button extravaganza. Logitech has responded with their own over-sized powerhouse: the 20 button G600. It definitely looks impressive and the sheer number of buttons means that, for the most part, we can forget there is even a keyboard in front of us.

Logitech G600

1.    The Behemoth

The G600 is a massive gaming mouse, which is a good thing. The size allows for an easy grip and the matte surface is very comfortable to rest your hand on. Unlike other traditional designs, there are three main mouse buttons (not including the mousewheel). The right click has been moved to the middle, which takes a lot of getting used to, while the rightmost button is meant to activate the G-shift function. What this does is effectively double the number of buttons on your mouse. That is a considerable amount that even the most technical of games really need. If there's one thing to complain about the G600 is that the shape is a little odd to hold. Since there are so many buttons collected around the thumb, it tends to bulge around the knuckle area instead of in the palm. Or maybe it was created for beings that are not quite human.

2.    Special Attacks

If you use the G600 for anything besides an MMORPG (or for games like Diablo 3, Skyrim or Minecraft), you will quickly find that you have enough buttons for just about all the button combinations you’d ever need on a keyboard. Once again, gamers need not be too dependent on hotkeys! The response time is good enough for games that are designed to be paired with the G600. Having that many buttons will give you the ability to store many macro shortcut combinations. The only major concern is whether you can remember them all to begin with. One noticeable downside of the odd grip is that it will hurt the gaming experience that requires quick reflexes. So, keep in mind, that you might want to switch out for something else when going from World of Warcraft to Battlefield 3.
