NX1000 delivers vibrant colors, good noise
elimination, smart sharing but pretty slow process.
Samsung NX1000 was released by the end of 2012.
This is the model that has the most appealing price among the three NX models
(including NX210 and NX20 whose prices are $1,000 and $1,250, respectively). At
the price range around $850, NX1000 will directly rival Sony NEX-3 as well as
Canon EOS M.

NX1000’s advantage is the 15-lens stock
that spreads all focal ranges while Sony NEX, though more popular, still has few
rare compatible lenses.
NX1000 uses APS-C CMOS sensor featuring
20.3MP resolution, 23.5x15.7mm size, ISO 100-12,800, shooting speed that can be
up to 8fps, Full HD video recording which can speed up to 24fps. Besides, the
device can record HD format at extra-large 2.35:1 ratio (commonly used in 1970s’
movies) by cutting of Full HD resolution down to 1,920x810pixel. The device can
record Cinema video clips at the speed of 24fps.
The
camera kit
NX1000 shares a similar look with the
pricier NX210. The device also has a more angular design and bigger handle for
user’s comfort but the coat is made of plastic, instead of metal. Only few
details ratchet, viewfinder eyepiece, support or light’s feet are made of metal.
However, the product delivers a surprisingly sturdy handling, in term of
material. This good impression also arises when using the handle that chokes
out far enough for hands of Asian users in general. The rear rubber part does make
one-hand using sturdy.

With the size of 114x62.5x37.5mm, NX1000 is
slightly smaller than NX210. This compactness also sacrifices EVF and turns
flash into a SEF-15A type. Though sold with the kit but attaching such
accessories makes the device bulkier in pocket and user can’t install both
flash and EVF at the same time.
NX1000’s button arrangement focuses on
simplicity and there’s not much difference with compact cameras in the market.
On top lies mode wheel, capture button integrated with power ring and Smart
Link button that helps Samsung to emphasize the distinguishable intelligence
and sharing on its camera. On the back, NX1000 owns a separate record button
for quick maneuver in some cases. One specific Fn button also helps user to
change parameters through a fast and visual menu.

For new camera and NX product lines, Samsung
places en exclusive i-FN feature onto the lens. When pressing this button along
with rotating the ring, user will quickly change parameters, shutter speed,
ISO… Samsung wants to bring a professional feeling of rotating like on DSLRs
but practices showed that when pressing button, the action of rotating the ring
and making adjustments on the camera would be handier and easily-functioned
than rotating the lens. Though, this is still a unique feature that differentiates
NX Series from mirror-less models in the market.

very good
Because of having no name in the market, Samsung
chose a new approach that suits its strengths – smart features. When pressing
Smart Link button on top of the device, user will instantly be able to
configure sharing via social networks: Photobucket, Facebook, Picasa, Youtube… if
the device is connected to the Internet through Wi-Fi. Uploading files is quite
fast though writing caption for images by navigating throughout single words takes
lots of time.
Beside the ability of direct sharing
through social networks, once using smartphones, user can copy data directly
from phones or Remote Viewfinder will help to adjust the parameters remotely. However,
live-view images uploaded from the camera to smartphone sometimes get lagged
due to the unstable connection. NX1000 can connect with smartphones directly
via Wi-Fi, as a role of the transmitter thus user may use this feature in any
place without a stable transmitter.
Aside from smart connections, Samsung also
provides user with basic editing tools and effects. Filters come various yet
they still the original image size. They include 10 smart filters and 21 photo
frames consisting of Soft Focus that creates a cozy feeling or Half-Tone Dot which
creates the comic effect. But, after applying any filter, the device may
proceed a little more slowly than usual as the image has been captured at
20.3MP resolution.

Rear display features 3in size plus
921,000pixel resolution. Though not having AMOLED technology like NX210 does, NX1000’s
images appear natural, unlike those of NX2100, due to this shortage. The
product also performs well under outdoor condition though color may seem faded.
Additionally, thanks to the integration of a gyroscope, the device can display
2 axes on screen, allowing user to adjust the camera’s balance.
NX1000 uses an anti-dirt system like NX100
and NX10 did, letting the device shake the sensor 60,000 times per second. By
default, this feature is off but practices suggest turning this feature on when
starting using the camera. It runs on start-up and takes only one more second
yet reduce the chance of getting dirt.

Another interesting feature of NX1000 is
Lens Priority. When activated, it will automatically detect which lens has been
attached and offer a list of suitable capture modes. This can also be seen as
the smart technologies. This capture mode also enables user to choose 6 out of
10 effects in the provided filters.
Samsung Smart Auto is on par with the auto-mode
other cameras. When turning the wheel to the green Smart icon, the device will
detect scenes or objects in 16 situations to bring out the most optimized
result. This will make user pay less attention to the adjustment of modes,
scenes or macro. Overall, this feature accomplishes its task well to detect
scenes but it may be hardly used with a mirror-less model.
