As the rumors, Panasonic has officially
announced its latest Micro Four Thirds camera: Lumix G5.

The camera uses 16.05 megapixel sensor,
like its predecessor G3. However, it has newer image processing system, named
Venus Engine VII FHD, helping handle image faster with low noise, 18%
faster running than previous generation. Model G5 has a touch screen, you can
touch to focus feature when filming and photographing, electronic viewfinder
(EVF) with 1.44 million pixels, the rear screen has a resolution of 921,000
pixels and can be rotated 180 degrees. The camera can record Full-HD video at
60fps speed with MP4 or AVCHD format option, 6fps continuous
shooting. G5 will appear with more kit options with white, black and silver
colors. Lumix G5 has not had official price and selling time, but
some rumors said that the camera will cost between $ 736-1080.
Panasonic mentioned much about the ability
to reduce noise of G5 on newspaper. In addition to the new image processor, G5
is also equipped with noise reduction system (3D Noise Reduction -
3DNR), which can automatically smooth the image, both inside and at the edge,
then adjust the strength of noise reduction feature (increasing in the smooth
area, reducing the image edge) to keep as much as possible the details of
object. Multi-process NR feature determines the brightness of
each region on the image, then reduce noise through several stages.
G5 uses auto focus system according to
contrast, so adjust the lens to focus is performed by the sensor.
Panasonic said that the contrast AF is better than phase AF (usually found on
DSLRs), especially used with big lens (small f parameter) for higher accuracy.
Besides the touch-focus mode on touch screen, Light Speed AF on G5 may
quickly lock the object even it moves at rapid speed.
Another new point of G5 is the lever
located near the shooting button. This lever controls lens focus
(when used with Electric Power Zoom H-PS14042 or H-PS45175), aperture and
light compensation (in Manual mode) or to zoom in, zoom out images when review.
The electronic viewfinder has a sensor to know when the users look at, so that
it will switch the display from LCD to EVF or reverse. It also can control the
camera to focus while the user looks at.
