HD700 is a new choice for a brand audiophile
class sound with the price of 1,000 USD, significantly better than its eldest
brother HD800.
Introduced the 1st time at CES
2012, HD700 attracted attentions from users all around the world when adding a
new choice, filling the pretty big gap in the price between HD800 and HD650.
According to that, the price of about 1,000 USD of HD700 is reasonable for a
class brand and the demand of listening to music which requires high accuracy
and still show well the different volume tone.
HD
700 contains many promising technologies.
The conspicuous feature in HD700 is the
slightly modified design from the previous brother HD800. There are still the
strong and attractive lines at the Ear-cup along with and exposed pair of
driver, letting the part that in contact with the ears expanded.
The advantage of this design is that it
makes the sound fields more transient and also helps the listeners having
comforts after long time using. However, the shortcoming is that the sound
coming from the driver may escape, reduce the privacy of the users. Moreover,
the parasitic noise can get in more easily, which is a problem the manufacturers
are focusing to solve on their samples, and Sennheiser has succeeded with
HD700.
HD700 is a full-size headset with a pretty
big size. From the details like not attaching the 6.3mm jack adapter, or 150
Ohm impedance requiring an attached class amplifier, the product shows clearly
that it’s a headset specialized in working in place without having to move far
away.
However, the earcup with the bigger size
that cover the helix is not a small plus, together with the usage of the soft
foam rubber at all contact point and pretty light weight, HD700 gives user the
comfortable feeling even when using for a long time.
Specially, the outstanding technique
applied by Sennheiser to one of their most high-grade products, such as the
voice coil mounted at askew angle, to the producer, will improve the sound
field significantly. Duofol diaphragms give quick-respond frequency, synonymous
with extremely low rest time; the open magnet system takes over the air
regulation to avoid signal fault, interference. Moreover, the steel bar is
specially designed to make the Ear-cup imitating the pro acoustic listening
room.
Sennheiser HD700 owns a 3m-long firm and
soft wire, but the product is not designed for the users to take along without
having any handy bag beside the initially-accompanied big cover.
HD700
has a big size.
After a relatively long time of burn-in,
enough for a headphone having high impedance such as HD700, the product is
composited with Lehmann Audio Rhinelander amplifier, which is popular about the
ability to stretch over 3 bands without deforming the sound. Above all,
Rhinelander and the advanced Sennheiser headset is long since considered as a
“coincident pair”, “accord” when performing and brings back high performance.
Realizing the strong point in bass, first the
HD700 is tested with classical music. With chapter 4 of Dvorak’s The
New World symphony, right from the beginning, listeners can feel the
bass range goes deep down, detailed without being broken. Though it may be not
full of energy as HD800, bit to most of the headphones on the same segment,
HD700 can still be confident in the solid and powerful bass.
The next song in test is a smooth jazz by
Norah Jones, Don’t Know Why, a version in the album of the same
name in 2002. HD700 shows that the midrange is quite clear and properly gentle
without over magnifying to the extent that it’s “cheat”. One more time, the
level of detail is still not a small plus of HD700 when not missing any small
part of the singing or the melodious background music.
To find out about the high sound, HD700
comes with a quite famous electro remix version of Aj Hernz’s Snap Back Swag.
The conspicuous point is that the headphones from Sennheiser won’t be “afraid”
of the climaxes when still showing the full detail of treble sound neatly.
Liveliness is also performed well when HD700 catches up with the fast and
powerful rhythm of the song.
However, as a specificity of the product,
the middle and high sound range can be a little warmer to please those who look
for the soft and emotional songs.
The
“coincident pair” Rhinelander and HD700
In general, the high-graded headphones are
worth with the design and relatively sound as compared with HD800. The product
is best-suited for those who have the demand of listening to audiophile grade
music in different genres.
