Fresh Impressions Oppo Find 7a Review

After months of rumors and high anticipation of Oppo landing in the Philippines, the China-based smartphone manufacturer finally saw the potential in our local market and launched its initial offerings. The Oppo Find 7a is one of the highlights, and is the subject of this review.

Despite the flagship-level specs, the Find 7a can't be called Oppo's hero product. You'll have to take a look at the Find 7 to realize that, with its QHD resolution (2560 x 1440) and other internal upgrades. Still, the Find 7a manages to secure a vibrant Full HD (1920 x 1080) 5.5-inch IPS display and the same solid build quality as its stronger sibling.

To our surprise, the rear cover is removable, but it takes a pin to open it up. With that the battery Is also removable. The overall feel of the body is nice, but a little on the large side That's to be expected of a phablet-sized handset though.

Our review unit only had Android 4.3 equipped, but it owned the latest build of Oppo's ColorOS. The preinstalled interface isn't too far off from the original Android system, and getting the hang of it is a cinch. A fun feature is the ability to draw a shape or pattern while the screen is off, and then the specified app will be launched directly from there. Drawing a circle, for instance, brings you straight to the camera app. Luckily, you can create your own gestures.

There's some confusion over what processor the Find 7a uses, but according to the official spec sheet provided by Oppo Philippines, it's the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 (MSM8974AB) quad-core chipset clocked at 2.3GHz. The processor effortlessly provided us chart-topping scores of 35821 on AnTuTu and 21490 on quadrant Standard. This only helps to reinforce the already smooth performance of the user Interface.

Another strong suit of the Find 7a is its 13-megapixei camera. It's easily able to hold its own against other flagship smartphones, thanks especially to its Sony-made CMOS sensor and wide f/2.0 aperture We were able to pull off photos both In daytime and at night that could pass as those from standalone cameras. Thanks to the high-end soc, you can also record crisp 4K videos.

There’s a dual-LED flash under the camera for even better nighttime photography.

The battery performance is adequate, able to withstand a day of heavy usage. The upside is the Rapid Charge technology, which, like the name suggests, allows a full charge much faster than conventional charging.

Don't let the unfamiliar brand fool you; the Oppo Find 7a matches practically any other high-end device out in the market right now. The fair price Is simply a bonus.
