Review

In the world of smartphones, we are still seeing a whole lot of feature phones come out and either be used as back-up phones or as a handy secondary smartphone. The dual-SIM powered Nokia Asha 206 is one such phone, which has a fairly good build quality that reminds you of the Nokia phones of yore. The problem is, Nokia has stuck to its guns and powered a device with the same old S40 OS        which has been around even before Apple announced their first iPhone. Which automatically translates to the fact that there are really no innovative features that you would want to read or we can write about. Yes, there is connectivity in the form of EDGE/GPRS, but no Wi-Fi. It has Bluetooth too, but no USB port. The audio output is loud, but not the most pleasing. Video support is limited and the quality is quite decent, but nothing to boast about. The dual-SIM slots support Mini-SIM in the 2nd slot, which has a separate enclosing on the side panel. It does handle the dual-SIM part pretty well and the choices to select one SIM over the other are quite customizable, although not great. The same is seen throughout the Nokia Asha 206, be it the average camera, the multimedia experience, the apps or the lack thereof. Popular apps like Whatsapp have been known to be compatible with S40 devices, but strangely enough - were not in the Ovi Store, nor available to download and install via their website. There is still only 64MB of internal memory which seems woefully less, though there is a microSD card slot which can support expansion up to 32GB.

Verdict

If a shoe-string budget phone with a few connectivity features is what you are looking for, then the Nokia Asha 206 should fit your bill. It works without hassles and looks tough enough to handle some rough use every now and then.

A big, bright 2.4″ screen and tactile, well-spaced keys make the Nokia 206 Dual SIM a joy to use. It looks good too, combining clean, elegant design with a choice of striking colors including cyan, magenta and yellow.
