The last few months of 2013 saw the entry of four new phablets with display sizes of above 5.5-inch. All four come with the latest hardware and software technologies, but which one is worth shelling out your money for?

LG G Flex

The G Flex’s curved 6-inch display is undeniably the top design feature. LG claims the curvature improves call quality although we were unable to discern any difference during actual usage. The curvature also doesn’t feel any more comfortable in hand or against the face than a regular smartphone.

Description:

LG has now leveraged that expertise, forever changing the very shape of the smartphone category by creating the new G Flex, the world’s first curved, flexible smartphone

If there is one benefit of the curvature, it would be its ability to be “flexed”. Officially, the G Flex is able to withstand up to 32kg of weight. While it is tougher than most mobile devices, we doubt if anyone would want to sit on their 6-inch phones in the back pocket.

Another unique feature of the G Flex is the self- healing finish on its rear. The phone is able to heal from light scratches and even deep gouges, although deep wounds can still be seen at certain angles. This is achieved through the use of a soft and elastic, clear plastic finish which will bounce and melt together to reduce the appearance of scratches.

Like the G2, the G Flex has its power and volume controls located at the top-middle rear. This placement makes the G Flex easier to handle. The power button has a notification LED, which you can customize to show different colors for different notifications.

Description:

Driven by LG’s industry expertise in high-end OLED displays,
the G Flex represents the latest in OLED screen technology.

Debuting on the G Flex is LG’s new P-OLED technology, with the P standing for plastic as opposed to glass on a regular OLED. As the technology is relatively new, LG is unable to put a Full HD display in the G Flex. What you get instead is a 720p display, one that’s easy to see some degree of image retention and graininess.

The G Flex runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with LG’s customized user interface which offers software enhancements such as dual-windows which takes advantage of the large display, and allows you to divide the screen into two panels for easier multitasking.

Description:

The G Flex is powered by a unique, new, long-life type of battery and
actually flexes along with the phone.

Specifications-wise, the G Flex is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core 2.26GHz processor, 2GB RAM and the world’s first curved battery. It has a 13-megapixel rear camera and boasts 32GB internal storage, but no memory card slot.
