Lumia 520 has a great display screen, good
performance and a reasonably price for ordinary users started switching from
basic phones to smartphones.
Nokia had just introduced the cheapest
smartphone Lumia 520 using Windows Phone 8. Its price is about $192, which is
as much as 25% of the high-end phone Lumia 920. Although it has a low price, it
does not mean that Lumia 520 is bad design and poor quality. The phone is
still sturdy in regular shape, has large super-sensitive touch screen and a
removable rear casing which is available in many colors so that you can choose
whatever colors you like.

4 inch super-sensitive touch screen is very comfortable to use
With a price under $200, the Nokia Lumia
520 is the first phone on the market that use SOC (System on Chip) platform with
the dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 1 GHz, 512 MB RAM, 8 GB memory
storage (4 GB to use), 4-inch IPS screen resolution of 800x480 pixels, pixel
density is 233 ppi, Adreno 305 discrete graphics, support memory card slot,
camera 5 megapixel with no flash support, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth connectivity...
and battery with a capacity of 1,430 mAh. There are other brands or cheap
smartphones from China that have 2 or 4 cores processor, which were produced by
MediaTek (MTK) or Rockchip, are much more lower in performance and stability.
Compared to the Lumia 620, 820 and 920 that
had been released, the 520 version only retains the super-sensitive touch
screen technology, other exclusive technology from Nokia, such as: screen
support ClearBlack Display, PureMotion HD+ or PureView imaging technology have
been eliminated, the critical applications Nokia City Lens is also cut
out. But the phone still has a few other important applications for
imaging such as Cinemagraph, Creative Studio, Panorama, Smart Shoot and
PhotoBeamer ... About the mapping application only, it has been renamed to HERE
Drive, HERE Maps (formerly called Nokia Drive, Nokia Maps).
Design
It has a compact design, regular in shape.
Most of the front is taken by a scratch-resistant 4-inch screen, the rear
casing is removable. Battery is placed in the middle, cover the mounting
location of microSIM and microSD card so you have to turn off the device in
order to replace them. The buttons are gathered on the right side, including
the volume rocker, sleep button and shutter button located in the top right
corner.

The plastic cover is thick and sturdy, but
the plastic knobs on the shell buffer (inner part) are somewhat flimsy design,
its durability is not high. We encounter a problem when try to fit the plastic
cover with the body, sometimes the buttons are not on the right cushion
joints. Especially the camera button, the camera is often out of focus even if
you press and hold the button, then you will have to carefully remove the back
cover to get the button in the right position. Speakerphone is designed with a
surrounding anti-vibration rubber so its sound is very good and clearly. The
camera is secured by a glass. Similar to the Lumia 820, the headphone jack is
designed on the top, the Lumia 620 is an exception for this regards.
In addition, the design of the 4 corners
curved on the back accidentally formed some pretty hard "spearhead",
if you hold the phone with a little force, the almost jagged corners can dig
into your hand a little and it will be very uncomfortable when put the phone in
a cramped pocket.
Screen
Lumia 520 uses a super-sensitive IPS 4-inch
touchscreen that enables you to operate the screen even with your fingernails.
Especially those with sweaty hands, the touch interraction is still pretty
good. The contrast of colors is quite good, as to maximum brightness, the
inclined viewing angle of the phone is fine, but the black reproduction is not good,
which is out of bright white and faded into dark gray, easily recognizable
while watching movies with two black bars at top and bottom.

The
brightness is quite good, fully detailed but you can still see the pixels.
Although the resolution of 800x480 pixels,
233 ppi pixel density, with a closer look you can still see the pixels make the
details look bad. In addition, the automatically function that adjusts the
brightness of the screen is not sensitive so this function work badly.
Ideally, you should adjust the brightness
level on the available scale: high, medium and low. The most proper level is
average, which is just enough brightness for every demand. The high brightness
is only appropriate when used under the sun, even indoors or at night it would
be "brilliant" and make you dazzle if you look repeatedly at close
range. The low brightness is suitable only for saving battery.
