Teenagers

If they begin to recognize seriously about photography, teenagers can be ready for a mirror-less lens-swap camera, or a primary DSLR camera. The products we have selected here are outstanding with quite small physical sizes, easy-to-use, and range of both automatic and manual features. All of them are small and easy-to-use, but they still offer enough excellent functions to allow young photographers to enjoy finding basic information of photograph and develop their hobby if they want.

Nikon 1 S1 (inc 11-27mm zoom)

Nikon 1 S1 (inc 11-27mm zoom)

Nikon 1 S1 (inc 11-27mm zoom)

It is not much bigger than point-and-shoot camera, but Nikon 1 S1 provides benefits of a 1-inch CMOS sensor (the sizes similar to one of those found at Sony RX100) and changeable-lenses in a small form. It does not have traditional dial mode and other buttons for controlling on the screen; however, that does probably not bother your babies as much as you do.

One of the important features includes adjusting exposures totally by hand, aperture- and shutter-priority  mode, ISO range from 100-6,400, taking 12-bit NEF RAW, and phase-detection/contrast-detection auto-focus systems in 15fps continuous-shooting mode of the camera.

That is even faster than available continuous-shooting speed in camera – 30fps and 60fps – but both require that focusing must be locked in the first flame of row. Nikon 1 S1 makes 1080 60i and 30p videos, and has two slow-motion movie modes for making scene at 400fps (640x240) and 1.200 fps (320x120).

Olympus E-PM2 (inc 14-42mm zoom)

Olympus E-PM2 (inc 14-42mm zoom)

Olympus E-PM2 (inc 14-42mm zoom)

A small mirror-less camera, Olympus PEN E-PM2 (also called “Pen Mini”) offers a Four Thirds sensor, sensor-shift image stability, and 3-inch touchscreen. As Nikon 1 S1, it does not have dial mode. Its 16-megapixel CMOS Four-Thirds sensor is one the same point found in high-end Olympus OM-D E-M5, but E-PM2 have some appearances and interface are designed newly in users’ mind.

To be called “PEN Mini”, E-PM2’s Live Guide feature allows you to adjust settings in the camera (aperture, exposure compensation, shutter speeds, white balance, color saturation, and so on) using simple terms such as "Blur Background” and “Express Motion” instead of basing on aperture and shutter adjustments. In fact, you can adjust these settings according to traditional ways in instruction manual of camera as priority aperture, and priority shooting modes.

Its touch screen supports the operations of touch-to-focus and touch-shutter and automatic focusing speed. Installing ISO is in average level compared to the smallest camera from 200 to 25,600. Maximum continuous shooting speed at present is 8fps for full-resolution pictures (with fixed focus), and camera records 1080p/30fps videos. The same as other Olympus cameras, the creative filters included inside E-PM2 are expanded and very effective. We have looked into E-PM2 recently and are really impressed.

Canon EOS Rebel SL1(inc 18-55mm zoom)

Canon EOS Rebel SL1 (inc 18-55mm zoom)

Canon EOS Rebel SL1(inc 18-55mm zoom)

Many people think that there is no suitable replacement for optical lens, and Canon EOS Rebel SL1 launched DSLR camera only in the body that is not much bigger than mirror-less camera. Cannon is proud of SL1 as the smallest and lightest DSLR camera in the world, and it also has the same 18-megapixel APS-C sensor and DIGIC 5 image processor, and bigger than EOS Rebel T5i.

Its small sizes probably are the main competition of SL1; in spite of its slim body, it is still comfortable to use. Key technology specifications include a ISO range of 100-12,800 (expandable up to 25,600), aperture- and shutter- priority modes, 4fps continuous shooting, RAW shootings, and fixed 3-inch touchscreen which is assisted touch-to-focus and menu. Moreover, it also has traditional dial mode and controlling circle on the top of camera, so you cannot be stuck with touchscreen as the only way to dial everything.

EOS Rebel SL1 is the most suitable one in this product collection for any younger, enthusiastic filmmakers, for instance its 1080p video mode (which records at both 30fps and 24fps speeds) supports manual exposure adjustment while shooting movies.
