About its oparations, the GH3 has moved farther forward from the GH2. With a bigger handgrip, improved arrangements of buttons, bigger battery and an excellent touchscreen, we won’t hesitate even for a little while to say that the GH3 is one of the most intuitive CSCs we have ever used. The camera is well supported by a good selection of lenses and there are no fewer than 17 Panasonic G-series lenses to expand the system from wideangle 7mm lenses right through to 300mm zoom telephoto. With Wi-Fi now built into the camera, it can skip the step of uploading your images to the computer before attaching them to an email or posting them to social media channels. Moreover, the idea of being able to see exactly what the screen displays on your phone or tablet is absolutely fantastic and this could really be preferred by wildlife photographers who like to work as secretly and quietly as possible.

The GH3 challenges DSLRs at a similar price in the way it processes and controls, but how about image quality? In isolation, the detail that is resolved by the 16MP sensor is very considerable and until you compare side by side the results with a camera that uses an APS-C sized sensor, you will realize that there is less detail in the GH3’s files at 100%.

Setting the highest sensitivity, we would be proud to shoot at ISO 3200 and ISO 6400 with some noise reduction applied. So let’s turn back to our initial question about whether the GH3 is ready to challenge its DSLR competitors or not, and our answer is yes. Both shooting and recording video is an interesting experience with the GH3 and with the overall score of 92%, it leaves with a Gold Award.
