IFA 2012: 31 Aug, to 5 Sept.

Every year since the 1920’s the tech world waits for an event to begin at Berlin – the IFA, or Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin which literally stands for Internaional radio exhibition Berlin, aka ‘Berlin Radio show’. Between 1924 and 1939 it was an annual event, but as from 1950 it was organized on a two yearly basis until 2005. Since then it has become an annual event again, held in September. Today it is one of world’s leading trade shows for consumer electronics and home appliances. It offers the opportunity to exhibitors to present their latest products and developments to the general public. As a result of daily reporting in almost all the German media, the radio exhibition achieves a large spreading of the information and advertising messages and has also become international. In the course of its history, a large number of world innovations were first seen at the exhibition. The next IFA will be held from 31 August, to 5 September 2012 in Berlin.

Description: the IFA, or Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin

There are many firsts that have taken place at this fabulous electronic show for many decades, but rather than looking back at those memories, we want to tell you more about the city of Berlin and what else it can offer during your stay over there, during the IFA.

Making a trip to Berlin is always worthwhile. And oftentimes, the trip can be especially rewarding on New Year’s Eve, for example, when hundreds of thousands of visitors welcome the New year at the Brandenburg Gate. And February, too, is especially notable, as this is when famous movie stars make their way down the red carpet for the international film festival Berlinale. And the  Easter holidays traditionally see famous opera soloists coming to Berlin for the Festive Days of the Staatsoper.

Berlin is now, officially, the capital of Germany and many major German corporations are in the process of relocating their headquarters to the city of political decision making. New buldings, built by worldclass architects, have sprouted up throughout the ‘new Berlin’ and although much of its historical heritage was destroyed during the Second World War, Berlin has maintained a cultural richness, sustaining a fascinating and diverse selection of museum and monuments.

Still a city of two sides, the west embraces alternative lifestyles with a vivacious nightlife and inherent atmosphere of mounting excitement while the east is a journey through the remains of the socialist experiment: a living, breathing museum of utilitarian buildings and hiden delights. Beyond the main thoroughfares there are lively bars, all- night entertainment and interesting little cafes.

IFA Continues to Grow

Dr. Christian Goke, COO Messe Berlin: “the fact that the world of consumer electronics and home appliances attacts 140,000 trade visitors and more than 6000 journalists to Berlin is without parallel anywhere in the world. The story continues in terms of growth and dynamic innovation. IFA is an ongoing success”.

IFA Tech Watch.
