Although it’s not quite as full featured as
the desktop version, the mobile version of Excel enables you to create
and view spreadsheets with ease. Excel Mobile can even open desktop
Excel spreadsheets, although it ignores any unsupported features that
are used in the spreadsheet.
Creating a New Spreadsheet
You can create a new Excel spreadsheet by opening the Office hub and following these steps:
1. Flick the screen to access the Recent page.
2. Tap the New icon.
3. Tap Excel.
Document Templates
The procedure outlined here assumes that you
want to create a blank Excel spreadsheet. However, when you tap the New
icon, Windows provides templates you can use to create preformatted
spreadsheets. For example, Microsoft provides templates for tracking
expenses or vehicle mileage and even an event scheduler. You can create
a spreadsheet based on a template simply by tapping the template.
Working with the Excel Interface
When working with Excel, you likely will use
two main components: the onscreen keyboard and the Excel icon bar.
Unfortunately, you cannot display these items on the screen at the same
time; you must switch between them as needed.
The process of entering data into Excel takes
some getting used to. The first time you need to enter data into a
cell, you have to tap the cell and then tap the text bar at the top of
the screen. This reveals the keyboard so that you can begin entering
data. However, if the keyboard is already onscreen, you simply tap a
cell and begin entering data.
If the onscreen keyboard is currently
displayed, you need to access the Excel icon bar and then press the
phone’s Back button. This hides the keyboard and reveals the icon bar.
