things more interesting with its offering
The Optimus G sports a lovely 4.7-inch
display, a 13-MP snapper and 32GB internal storage. The phone is loaded with
all the essential features one requires in terms of connectivity, including
NFC, DLNA and Wi-Fi Direct. It also supports Miracast for times you would like
to mirror the phone’s display on a compatible TV.

Thanks to the Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core
chip and 2GB RAM, everything is buttery smooth. The Gorilla Glass 2-enforced
True HD IPS display is bright; colors are rich and what’s more are they do not
cripple the battery life. It lasted us well over a day at work, including a
session of FL Commando.
We didn’t like the voice call clarity much
as it jarred at higher volumes. The build is sturdy and feels comfortable too.
Even the blackface has a layer of Gorilla Glass 2 but overall it is an
uninspiring design. What also irked was the keyboard. Touch response, text
prediction and continuous input, both fared poorly. A third-party app might
solve this gripe. That said, the Optimus G makes a case for itself as a value
quad-core because its best buy price is now down to $547

Killer feature: Soft skills
The Optimus UI is also well done and feels
like a refreshing change. The screen unlock is like any other with its quick
launch icons but with a slight difference. A partial unlock lets you glance at
the screen below, if you need to just take a quick peek. The notification bar
includes shortcuts, both of which can be customized to one’s preferences. The
QuickMemo app is somewhat like Samsung’s S-Memo, letting users annotate images
and sharing them with others. Q-Slide is an alternate take on multi-tasking; it
lets users work on two windows by resizing them and tweaking their opacity.
Even if the windows overlap, it is still possible to initiate actions on the
underlying app. The Optimus G may not be a looker but does come through in
these areas.
