The super-durable smartphone of Kyocera runs Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich), but there’re a few changes of Sprint. Specifically, some apps are dedicated to the carrier such as the set of Sprint ID app, Mobile Sync to save contact and Sprint Zone. Besides, the phone also packs Eco Mode, which is a pretty convenient automation of what smartphone users tried to do: turning off the features to preserve the battery. With this function, everyone can set a specific battery level at which, will make the app launch the user setting from low brightness to shorter duration for sleep mode: Torque also has Swype installed onto the virtual keyboard.

Ice Cream Sandwich doesn’t fit your taste? Sprint said that the phone was set to receive upgrade to Jelly Bean in the next few months, but it didn’t support naturally QChat of Qualcomm which Sprint used for push-to-talk. Depending on the waiting time and the inconsistency of the Android updates distributed by the carrier, you shouldn’t hold your breath and wait for Torque to be enhanced with the latest version of Android.

When talking about performance, the phone seems to be fast when swiping through the screens, menus and running the apps thanks to the 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 Plus processor. Torque of Kyocera carries the same chip as HTC One X for AT&T and Samsung Galaxy S III of T-Mobile, but it’s not even equal to half of their score in most of the horsepower tests.

The hard ware is very different for a gaming machine because it reaches 14fps speed in our tests, but it can run 3D games pretty well, with some of the clutter when the heavy-GPU –required events happen. Actually, what block the device is having only 1GB of built-in memory, which means that you can’t play the games which are heavier than 1GB or somewhere in that range without the microSD card. Regardless of the lack of gaming capability, smartphone proves to be stable at a role of email and social network machine.

In the standard battery test, Torque can squeeze out 9 hours 15 minutes of time from the 2,500mAh battery, but it’s better in daily use. on a day going out to fish and shoot the scene at a Renaissance trade fair, the device still worked even when the author checked mail and social network frequently, and made some calls through 3G. it not only survives after 24 hours but also preserve its remains for 12 hours more mostly in standby mode.

Though it’s equipped with LTE radio, we don’t find the 4G network while using it. our 3G speed test was performed around Kissimmee and St. Cloud, Fla., reaching the average level of 564Kbps for download and 410Kbps for upload.

Though it’s equipped with LTE radio, we don’t find the 4G network while using it.

Conclusion

In the land of Android phones, Torque is obviously a weak one. It comes at 99USD (after a discount) and a 2-year contract with Sprint. If your main convers are aestheticism and power, it’s better for you to buy the latest high-end phone from many companies which are competitor the dominator rank of smartphone. However, if hardness beats the hunger for “powerhouse” horsepower and stunning exterior, Torque can fit your pocket perfectly – if you don’t mind choosing the microSD card to make good of the 1GB of built-in storage causing disappointment. Certainly you’re ready to pay for the latest and most amazing smartphone and buy a case which will keep it safe when reducing its beauty, but Torque provide a pretty reasonable deal: good Android experience on a super-durable and cheap hardware.
