Design and features

As the low-end P8Z77-V LX model, the P8Z77-V LK is narrower than the ATX form-factor but retains the way of classic component layout that does not affect usability.

Supporting all kinds of LGA1155 CPUs, the mainboard has a digital 4 +1 +1 power system. In contrast to the low-level model, some of the voltage regulator components are covered by another heatsink protected by the spring plastic latches. The chipset heatsink employs the same kind of splint. Similar to the rest of the ASUS mainboards, this model can take up to 32 GB of DDR3 SDRAM and generate the pulse at frequencies of 800 to 3,200 MHz (with an Ivy Bridge CPU). Storage devices are connected through the Intel Z77 Express chipset, two SATA 6 Gbit/s connectors (the gray color) and four SATA 3 Gbit/s ports (the blue color). There are no other SATA controllers here.

Unlike its low-level brother, the P8Z77-V LK can share the 16 PCIe 3.0/2.0 entrances between two graphics slots, supporting multi-GPU configurations based on NVIDIA SLI and AMD CrossFireX technologies. In the latest models, you are able to even use a third slot (the black, in PCIe 2.0x4 mode) with the position of both PCI Express 2.0x1 slots that are disabled. In addition to that, there are two PCI slots that are available for the expansion cards. The P8Z77-V LK also contains an additional ASMedia ASM1042 controller that is responsible for the two USB 3.0 ports of the back panel.

The connectors

The connectors

·         Universal PS/2 connector for keyboard and mouse;

·         Two USB 2.0 ports, another eight ports are laid out as four onboard pin-connectors;

·         D-Sub, DVI-D, HDMI and DisplayPort video outs;

·         Four USB 3.0 ports (blue connectors), two of which are implemented via ASMedia ASM1042 controller. Another two ports and one more internal pin-connector for two additional USB 3.0 ports are provided by Intel Z77 Express chipset;

·         A local network port (network adapters are built on Gigabit Realtek RTL8111F controller).

·         An optical S/PDIF and six analogue audio-jacks provided by eight-channel Realtek ALC892 codec

·         Universal PS / 2 connector for keyboard and mouse;

As the P8Z77-V LX, this model has wide and convenient Q-Slot latches on the graphics slots meanwhile in the memory slots have the normal latches. The MemOK button allows the mainboard to boot successfully in case of problems with the system memory. The GPU Boost converter can automatically accelerate the clock speed of the CPU-integrated graphics core. The EPU (Energy Processing Unit) converter can be used to activate the power-saving modes, but the mainboard lacks a TPU switch (TurboV Processing Unit) to overclock the CPU even though it does not support the TurboV technology. There is only one indicator (DRAM LED) outside the Q-LED system available on the other ASUS mainboards. Additionally, we are able to see Standby Power, EPU GPU Boost and LED. The four fan connectors are for all of the 4-pin types. Compared with the high-end models, the P8Z77-V LX lacks technology-updated software of USB BIOS Flashback.
