Otherworldly power, right under your palm

You might be thinking, "Another gaming mouse, with another alien naming convention?", and we can attest that we did, indeed, started out thinking that about the PowerLogic Alien G9. And it does, on the onset, have every gaming mouse cliche one can slap onto a gaming mouse, but that doesn't mean that it’s a bad thing. In fact, this is one alien we'd thankfully have in hand.

Description: PowerLogic Alien G9

The G9 is mid-sized in built, which we feel is just that right balance between large enough to feel right, but small enough for it to be comfortable. The design is the typical rugged, jagged look that gaming accessories are apt to adopt, and it does look appropriately out of a sci-fi flick. The buttons are well placed and can be easily reached, and everything clicks right.

There are a total of 9 programmable buttons, which include the left-right-middle mouse buttons. There are two more at the thumb rest, another two right at the tip of left-click and twin smallish ones right at the middle. Running along top are stripes that has customisable lights.

Look underneath though, and you'll find a removable hatch that opens up to where the magnetic weighs can be placed into. You can have up to 9 of them, and it's a great addition that suits gamers with their own weight preferences. The G9 is plug-&-play upon unboxing, but you'll need it to work with the drivers and configuration software to get the best out of it. The software is one of the most user friendly ones we've used, easily letting you configure your buttons and light colour settings (which feature the whole spectrum). You can save up to 5 profiles and the settings can be applied without any momentary hitch.

There are 7 different dpi toggles which go up to 6,000dpi, so gamers can pick the type of sensitivity that they want. There's no on-the-fly dpi toggle though; you'll have to rely on the configuration software, meaning that you're going to have to pause, Alt-Tab and reconfigure.

The G9's performance is fairly impressive. The tracking on this thing is decent enough to make your shot count, and while it's not the smoothest mouse we've had, it's certainly top-notch enough to give its money's worth.
