There’s some red-eye phenomenon which is
visible in portrait shooting with flash, though the skin tone and the color are
good. Light and color are good with brilliant saturated results in many cases.
The images show good detail level, though the slightly sharper results may
happen due to the sharp images on your laptop or the changes in colors settings
in the camera.

16-50mm OSS PZ lens works well with a compact toggling electric zoom lens , with the good level of detail at
the corner despite using it at widest setting or farthest zoom. Macroscopic mode is not the main point of PZ
16-50mm lens, and we find that it has struggled to have a perfectly sharp image at
the closest focusing distance. However, the best result is obtainable when
using the lens at the distance of 30-38mm, as this allows us to get closest to the object.
Illustrating images and pincushion-shape
distorted image are well processed, though if you see the raw files, there’re
heavily distorted images, illustrative images and other faults need correcting.
If you shoot JPEG, then the camera
does an amazing job which is edit these problems automatically, and there’re
some additional options to peripheral shade (illustrative images), and
chromatic aberration.

ISO standard is very
good at ISO 200 and ISO 400 with very
little visible image noise. at ISO 800 there’s noise but it’s mild. Noise level increase once again at ISO 1600, but details remain pretty good and noise level is nothing to worry
about. Image noise becomes more noticeable at ISO 3200, and details begin
to be affected. Details are lost at ISO 6400 as the noise
increases; however, the company handles well in controlling image noise level
and providing useful images. At ISO 12800 noise again increases and the details are
affected, and that’s the time we recommend you using cautiously, as the images
may need to continue going through the process or change the size before using.

Auto white balance (AWB) produces a pretty
warm result under tungsten light with tungsten preset offering a better result.
AWB works well under fluorescent light, with the fluorescent presets giving a
slightly cold tune – though there’re some fluorescent preset for choosing, we
prefer the AWB results.

Panoramic mode allows you to simply pan the
camera while holding the shutter button, the camera auto joins the images
together. The images have good detail level and are well-joined.
Operating range is good, and it can improve
operating range, using dynamic range optimization (DRO), or HDR shooting – option includes auto or manual selection. The
raw files are not saved when using at HDR mode, though it will
save the JPEG version of the image
(no HDR).

When using the image effects, the camera
records the JPEG changes but
doesn’t allow you to use this feature with raw shooting. There’re available color selections that can be customized, allowing
you to set up the contrast, saturation and sharpness.
Video
Video is recorded at AVCHD or MP4 format, at 50i or 25p 1080p, with lower res than when recording MP4. Quality seems to be good though having
ripples is noticeable in area with high detail level. By using the zoom lens there’re some different ways to
control zooming in, including the rotational ring on the front of the lens,
near-by zoom and zoom control on the top. Reducing wind noise is available in
the menu setting, and some noises can be heard when using zoom.

Sony NEX-3N is a
mirror less camera, and though the price is low, it doesn’t feel like a budget
product, with compelling and useful compact 16-50mm OSS electric lens,
