The top knob is used to control the leg angle – what you need to do is just simply round it 180 degrees and then witness the legs fully angle out. That knob gives the legs two angles by clicking into two positions. If you use the tripod with the center column non-raised, the legs will be in the widest angle position, and then you would need to remove a half of the center column, which is easy to do as showed.

The center column can also be reversed if you wish to lower the camera even more to have a macro shot, although it does not performs the best with the tilting screens, but would work best with a camera which has a vari-angled screen.

Performance

There is a locking knob on the head, which is used to lock not only the rotation (for panning) but the ball as well. This means loosening the knob for panning would also loosen that of the ball, which makes it more difficult for heavier equipment to be panned. The head is usable on both ¼ and ½ tripods as its screw mount is removable and can be taken off the tripod to save more space when packing. The tripod with the head attached can be fitted into a smaller bag like the LowePro CompuDay 250.

Removing the camera from the tripod can cause the mounting to separate from the head, which is not really a bad thing because you can totally re-screw it into the head after leaving it on the camera.

With the good head and a twisting knob being spring loaded, you will easily fit your finger in between them to grip the tripod. Moreover, the plate coming with the camera owns a decent amount of rubber, which truly gives a firm secure of the camera and avoid any shifting.

Your camera would be safely protected from any drop as the center column is made of aluminum and its top has a rubber ring to secure the camera.

Value

With the price under $61, this tripod and its head offers an excellent value in terms of money, especially when considering its great 10 years of warranty. Other products that could be stand beside them under a consideration are the Slik Sprint Mini II GM, available for $75, the Manfrotto 393-H Tripod whose price is $79, the $74 Manfrotto Compact Photo, the $61 Hama Traveller Mini Pro and the compact Vanguard Nivelo 204BK designed for mirror less camera, which costs around $64.

Conclusion

The Cullman Nanomax 230T’s built quality exceeds any expectation, with an excellent range of features and design. The foam padding can be found in any arms, together with the aluminum legs and center column. For low position of shooting, the center column can be shortened. The tripod also has three clips for angling out the tripod, and its head is removable, which makes the tripod even more compact for travel. Attached this product is an significant 10 year warranty.

There is nothing that prevents you from removing the center column and you do not need to press any release button like in other tripods. The panning of the head and the ball position can be easily controlled by a single knob, which is simpler to use, but some difficulty panning can arise. While the traditional tripod plate is not found in this tripod’s head, it is available in other models in the Nanomax line if required, and the ball head allows users to position the camera quickly and easily. Despite some drawbacks, the Nanomax 230T, as a good structure and compact tripod, is such a bargain with its affordable price.
